why does my car shake when driving Page 8701

If your car’s shaking like a budget massage chair, it’s not “character” — it’s a mechanical clue waving a spanner at you. Vibes that peak around highway speeds usually point to wheels and tyres; shakes on braking scream “rotors,” and shudders under load hint at driveline gremlins. Don’t ignore it — vibrations love turning small bills into big ones. Likely suspects include:

• Wheels/Tyres: Out-of-balance, bent rims, flat spots, or tyre belt separation — most obvious at 80–110 km/h.
• Alignment/Suspension: Worn bushes, ball joints, or shocks; car tramlines and feels nervous.
• Brakes: Warped rotors or sticky calipers causing shake only when braking.
• Driveline: Worn CV joints, tailshaft/uni joints — shudder on take-off or under throttle.
• Engine/Mounts: Misfire or torn mounts — shake at idle that worsens with load.
• Loose wheel nuts or damage: Dangerous — stop and check immediately.

Start with tyre pressures and a wheel balance/rotation, then inspect suspension and brakes; if in doubt, let a qualified mechanic make it boringly smooth again.
