why is fuel expensive Page 17

Fuel prices don't just pop out of thin air like a magician's rabbit; they're the result of a messy cocktail of global politics, crude oil supply and demand, and the whims of currency markets. Australia, being reliant on imports for much of its fuel, feels every twitch in the international crude oil price, plus taxes and refinery costs. Add in pesky things like geopolitical tensions, natural disasters, or even a sneaky refinery shutdown, and suddenly your local petrol station looks like a money-grabbing villain. Don't forget government taxes and levies, which can make up a hefty slice of the price. So next time you scream at the pump, remember it’s a global tango, not just your petrol station’s greed.
