The Written-Off Vehicle Register (QLD) is the state’s ledger of cars declared a write-off—basically the automotive naughty list.
There are two flavours: statutory write-off (can’t ever be re-registered) and repairable write-off (may return to the road only after approved repairs and a WOVI inspection, under strict rules).
Before buying, run a PPSR check using the VIN, then verify any WOVI clearance and detailed repair receipts; if those don’t exist, walk away faster than a dodgy handbrake on a hill.
Even when cleared, expect extra insurance scrutiny and softer resale, so pay less than clean-title equivalents and get a pre-purchase inspection by someone with a torch and trust issues.
