In typical Ducati fashion, Pierre Terblanche’s Sport Classic range was a decade too early, as was his equally unpopular 999, which today sells for more than they were new. If Ducati released the Sport Classic in 2016 they would have sold faster than lippy at mardi-gra, but unfortunately they didn’t, and in 2006 the world just wasn’t into the retro styling that has captivated the globe in the last few years.

Around 2010, when a Classic could be had for not much above 6-8k, we were telling anyone who’d listen that they should grab one and throw a blanket over it for a few years; those that listened have a smile you’d need sandpaper to remove! Just like the 999, the Classic models have now become very stylish and desirable; their values increase every year and will continue to do so as the relatively low production that lasted only couple of years dictates this model will suffer the fiscal effects of supply & demand.

This beautiful example is an Austral delivered, 1 owner that has travelled 46,222k’s, and as the pics show has been part of a small but expensive Ducati collection. The bike has been meticulously maintained with full service records, owner’s hand-books, spare red-key, and a host of other papers & documents relating to the bike’s history. Invoices also displayed show this bike has been a well-loved item. In addition to a no-expense spared maintenance schedule, the owner has also spent over $8k on various high-end accessories that enhanced the bike & improved performance & handling. Power has been improved with a Wasp Tuning kit, while the Classic’s inferior suspension has been greatly rectified with fork inserts and a rebuilt rear shock. Another less than glamorous shortcoming of the Classic range are poor quality headers, but this has been overcome with ceramic coating.

Today Sport Classics command much higher values than when new, so with prices regularly in the mid 20’s, this example with its vast array of high-end accessories, presents as exception value.
