Bach JS / Busoni – Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D Minor (Piano)

Bach’s Chaconne from Partita No. 2 in D Minor, BWV 1004 is one of the greatest works of the violin repertoire. This Henle edition presents Ferruccio Busoni’s celebrated piano transcription, transforming Bach’s original solo-violin masterpiece into a monumental work for piano.

Busoni’s arrangement preserves the extraordinary architecture of Bach’s Chaconne while making full use of the piano’s sonority, dynamic range and powerful bass register. The result is one of the most demanding and rewarding works in the advanced piano repertoire.

Henle’s edition is prepared by Norbert Müllemann, with fingering by renowned pianist Marc-André Hamelin. Henle specifically describes the Busoni transcription as one of the major piano arrangements included in its catalogue.
