Liszt – Fantasie on Themes from Mozart’s Figaro and Don Giovanni (Piano)

Liszt’s Fantasie on Themes from Mozart’s Figaro and Don Giovanni is a fascinating work based on themes from two of Mozart’s celebrated operas. Liszt composed the Fantasy in late 1842 or early January 1843, and performed it in Berlin on 11 January 1843.

The surviving manuscript was left unfinished, although only relatively small sections are incomplete. This edition presents the work as a first edition, prepared and completed by renowned Liszt scholar and pianist Leslie Howard.

The piece combines themes from The Marriage of Figaro and Don Giovanni, showcasing Liszt’s characteristic approach to operatic paraphrase and virtuosic piano writing.
