Schumann – Forest Scenes, Op. 82 (piano)

Robert Schumann’s Forest Scenes, Op. 82, is a collection of nine atmospheric piano pieces composed in 1848–1849. The work is a characteristic example of Schumann’s Romantic style, using the imagery of the forest to evoke contrasting moods, scenes and characters.

The pieces range from the gentle opening “Entrance” to the mysterious “The Prophet Bird”, the lively “Hunting Song” and the reflective “Farewell.” Schumann originally included poetic mottos with the pieces, adding another layer of imagery to the music.

This revised Henle Urtext Edition, edited by Ernst Herttrich with fingering by Walther Lampe, is based on important original sources, including Schumann’s personal copy. The edition has been thoroughly revised to reflect current scholarship.
