Liszt – Tre Sonetti di Petrarca (3 Petrarch Sonnets) – Piano Solo

Tre Sonetti di Petrarca (Three Petrarch Sonnets) is one of Franz Liszt’s most celebrated works inspired by the poetry of Francesco Petrarca. The three pieces were originally composed as songs for voice and piano before Liszt created versions for solo piano. The revised piano versions later became Nos. 4–6 of Années de pèlerinage, Deuxième année: Italie.

The Three Sonnets
Sonetto 47 – Benedetto sia ‘l giorno
Sonetto 104 – Pace non trovo
Sonetto 123 – I’ vidi in terra angelici costumi

The music combines lyrical, vocal-style melodies with the virtuoso piano writing characteristic of Liszt, reflecting the influence of Italian bel canto.
