pure digital radio Page 199

Pure digital radio, or digital audio broadcasting (DAB), is the tech that kicked analogue radio into the past. It offers crystal-clear sound quality, with less static and interference, plus a nifty array of extra channels. In Australia, DAB+ is the standard, providing a more efficient compression than the old DAB.

Expect bit rates around 64-128 kbps for decent audio, and coverage mostly in metro areas like Sydney and Melbourne. New digital radios can set you back anywhere from $100 to $400 AUD depending on features, while used options pop up occasionally on places like Tradingpost.

Keep in mind, if your car’s ancient, you might need a new head unit to get on the digital bandwagon. For official specs and compatibility, have a gander at the manufacturers' documentation.
