us power plug Page 39

Ah, the US power plug—a charming relic of electrical chaos. It’s officially known as Type A and Type B plugs, with Type A having two flat parallel pins and Type B adding a grounding pin. They typically operate at 120 volts and 60 Hz, which is as American as apple pie and as incompatible with Aussie sockets as Vegemite on toast is with maple syrup.

So, if you’re thinking of plugging your gadgets straight into an Australian wall outlet, think again. You’ll need a reliable adapter or converter, or suffer the wrath of fried electronics.
